Pfizer supply arrives

THE Western District Health Service (WDHS) will have 600 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine available for people aged 40-49 next week.

With recent demand heavily outweighing supply following Victoria’s fourth lockdown, the news was a boost to south-west residents waiting to get vaccinated.

WDHS chief executive, Rohan Fitzgerald said it was great news for under 50s, who had travelled as far afield as Ballarat and Geelong to receive their Pfizer jab.

“After some challenges with vaccine supply in recent weeks we’ve been negotiating behind the scenes to make both Pfizer and AstraZeneca more accessible in the Southern Grampians,” he said.

“This has paid off, with WDHS set to become a provider of Pfizer in the region.

“We are really pleased to be offering the clinics next week, despite the setbacks we’ve experienced in the last couple of weeks.

“The new Pfizer clinic recognises the important role WDHS plays in supporting the vaccine rollout and is a reflection of the great work our vaccination team are doing to make our community safe.”
