Poisonous mushrooms warning issued

CONDITIONS have been advantageous for the Death Cap (pictured) and Yellow-staining mushroom to grow this autumn, with a call for the community to leave wild mushrooms alone. Consumption can lead to severe sickness and even be fatal. A local family had a lucky escape this week when their three-year-old son accidentally ate a variety out of curiosity that was later found to be poisonous – a close species of the Death Cap variety – fortunately he made a full recovery. VICTORIANS are being warned of the dangers of consuming wild mushrooms, as wet and cooler weather provides the ideal growing conditions for certain types of mushrooms.
