Senate inquiry and safety concerns delay 3G shutdown again

THE sun setting on the 3G network has been delayed again with an estimated 900,000 devices including phones, medical devices, farm monitoring systems and smoke alarms still potentially affected by the closure. A joint statement on Wednesday from Telstra and Optus announced the new date as October 28.

WITH an ongoing senate inquiry handing down an interim report following public hearings last month, further pressure has forced Telstra and Optus to again delay switching off the 3G network, this time until October 28.
