REGIONAL Victoria is set to have several lockdown restrictions lifted as of 11.59pm tonight, with premier, Daniel Andrews making the much-anticipated announcement that regional Victoria’s seventh lockdown would finally end.
Mr Andrews said the reduction in cases in the majority of rural areas outside of Greater Shepparton meant significant changes could be applied in regional Victoria.
“There are far less cases in regional Victoria than there are in Melbourne,” he said.
Regional Victorians will again be allowed to travel more than five kilometres from their home and authorize workers permits will no longer be needed although people will still have to work from home where possible.
Home visitors are still not allowed, but funerals will be allowed with up to 20 attendees and weddings with up to 10.
Restaurants and cafes will be able reopen for seated service with patron caps, which will also be in place for retail, hairdressing, entertainment venues and community facilities.
Masks will continue to be required indoors and outdoors.
Mr Andrews said the State Government was moving to a more targeted approach to regional areas and warned that case numbers would continue to be monitored.
