FINDING the right role model can be tricky for any young person, but it can be even more difficult to find the right person to connect with for those in foster care.
MacKillop Family Services announced on Wednesday it was re-launching a volunteer mentor program in the south-west, following a successful pilot project last year.
The program aims to connect school-aged young people (typically from seven to 16 years old) with volunteer mentors who will engage them through shared hobbies or interests.
This might include going for a bike ride, taking a dog for a walk, or doing colouring-in together.
Michael Hoffman, the program’s coordinator, was thrilled to bring the extended program to Hamilton.
“We learnt from the pilot project that the south-west community is willing to rally around those in need, particularly those who have experienced adversity,” he said.
