WITH the south-west experiencing its first taste of stage four lockdown over the weekend, Hamilton Police were pleased with the community response.
Hamilton Police criminal investigation unit detective sergeant, Mark James said while there “was a lot of confusion” around the lockdown, police had not received reports of breaches of the new restrictions.
“We’re pretty happy, we had no real issues with breaches across the weekend,” he said.
“We did take a lot of calls from the community with queries around what they can and can’t do.
“It’s clear there’s a lot of confusion around and while we’re happy to help, we don’t set the rules and we can’t give anyone permission to do anything outside of the rules.
“I know it’s hard and the restrictions are onerous, but we just have to get through these five days and do the right thing to keep everyone safe.”
Det Sgt James said anyone who was unsure of what they could do during the lockdown could visit the Department of Health and Human Services website at dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus or call the Coronavirus Hotline on 1800 675 398.
Yesterday the state recorded two new cases of COVID-19, including one locally transmitted case connected to the Holiday Inn outbreak.
Premier, Daniel Andrews said on Monday there were 21 active cases in the state, with 17 cases linked the Holiday Inn outbreak and the connected gathering in Coburg last week.
Mr Andrews said the new case was an asymptomatic woman who had attended the Coburg gathering and had returned weak positive results on four tests since.
Mr Andrews said more than 25,000 tests had been processed on Sunday, but he couldn’t confirm whether the lockdown would end on Wednesday as originally planned.
