Local musician dies in car crash

TRIBUTES have flown for Adam McClure, the 32-year-old shearer, musician, and former Hamilton resident, who sadly lost his life in a car accident near Beaufort on Friday morning.

Investigations into what caused the fatal crash are currently still ongoing.

Since hearing the news of his passing, friends and fans have paid their respects to the late musician, flooding social media with heartfelt comments and posts.

Adam has been described on Facebook as “a legend who will never be forgotten”, and someone who brought joy to many with his creative and relatable songs.

Top Gun Shearing made a tribute post on Facebook the day after the accident, that said “what a champion of a bloke, put a smile on the faces of many”.

A minute of silence was also held before the Quick Shear at the Casterton Community Carnival on Saturday in memory of the former shearer.

Adam was originally from Coleraine and got into music at the age of 17, when he decided to try his hand at playing guitar during his last year of school at The Hamilton and Alexandra College.

He then began writing his own songs, which led to the commencement of his professional music career in 2013 when his first song, titled ‘The Shearer’, received public recognition, getting over 3000 downloads on Triple J Unearthed.

After that, Adam continued to make music, writing songs about country life that include dry Aussie humour backed by catchy melodies.

Some of his most popular songs were ‘Hamilton Part 1 and 2’ ‘The 50 Stroke’, ‘The Shearer’ and ‘Smashing Tinnies’.

Adam released his last album, ‘Let’s Keep the Truth to a Minimum’ on September 6, 2021, which he said reflected his music going in a more “grown up” and personal direction, rather than a song that just made people laugh.

Adam’s memory will live on in his much-loved songs that touched the lives of many.
