TEMPERATURES are likely to be well below average for the upcoming Easter long weekend, with rain forecast across much of the nation.
Hamilton is expecting below-average April maximum temperatures, along with increased wind and several millimetres of rainfall that will likely make outdoor activities less enjoyable than they might otherwise be.
Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist, Sarah Scully, said earlier in the week that whilst conditions could still change, early forecasts would allow people to start planning their Easter weekend, especially in some high-altitude locations.
“Maximum temperatures are likely to be well below average for the Easter long weekend with snowfall possible in alpine areas on Saturday night and Sunday,” Ms Scully said.
“Showers are forecast in the south on Saturday, contracting to the ranges on Sunday, before becoming dry throughout on Monday. Hazardous surf conditions are forecast to develop on the south and central coast during Sunday, extending to the north coast on Monday.”
Weather conditions can change rapidly and residents are advised to take care on roads as heavy rainfall may increase the potential for landslides and debris; people are reminded to take care with water across roads creating slippery conditions.
On very windy days only travel if necessary and move vehicles under cover or away from trees, stay indoors if possible and away from windows.
